Card Settings

Customize how each card behaves in recommendations and credit tracking

Preferred Cards

Mark a card as your go-to for specific spending categories. When you set a card as preferred, the AI will prioritize it in recommendations for that category.

When to use:

  • You always want to use Card X for dining
  • You have a default for everyday purchases
  • You're working toward a spending bonus on a specific card

How to set:

  1. Open My Cards from the sidebar navigation
  2. Click on the card you want to set as preferred
  3. Click the Manage Card button (pencil icon)
  4. Click "Set Preferred"
  5. Choose the category

Freezing Cards

Temporarily exclude a card from AI recommendations without removing it from your account. The card will still appear in your portfolio, but it won't be suggested for purchases.

When to use:

  • Card is in a drawer and you're not actively using it
  • You're considering whether to cancel and want to see life without it
  • Taking a break from a card (e.g., sock drawer method)
  • You lost your card or are waiting for a replacement

How to freeze:

  1. Open My Cards from the sidebar navigation
  2. Click on the card you want to freeze
  3. Click the Manage Card button (pencil icon)
  4. Click "Freeze Card"

How to unfreeze:

  1. Open My Cards from the sidebar navigation
  2. Click on the frozen card
  3. Click the Manage Card button (pencil icon)
  4. Click "Unfreeze Card"

Disabling Components

Each card has components like multipliers, credits, and perks. You can disable individual components without affecting the rest of the card. When a component is disabled, it won't appear in AI recommendations or credit tracking, but the card itself remains active.

When to use:

  • You've hit a category cap and want to stop getting suggestions for that multiplier
  • A credit doesn't apply to your spending habits
  • You don't use a particular perk and want to reduce clutter
  • A multiplier has restrictions that don't work for you (e.g., specific merchants only)

How it works:

  • Disabled components are hidden from recommendations, dashboards, and credit tracking
  • Turning off a multiplier also removes it from Wallet Guide after the update and refresh succeed. Turning tracking back on restores it after the next successful update and refresh.
  • The component stays in the card's component list, so you can always find it again
  • It stays in place when you flip the toggle and appears dimmed, with a crossed-out eye next to its title
  • After you reload the page or switch away from the card and return, it moves to the bottom of its tab
  • The card's other components continue working normally
  • You can re-enable a component at any time from the same toggle
  • Disabling a credit will remove it from your tracking totals

Wallet Guide assumes every tracked multiplier is activated and still below its spending cap. If you have not activated a multiplier or have reached its cap, turn tracking off so Wallet Guide does not recommend it. Turn tracking on again when the multiplier is usable.

How to disable:

  1. Open My Cards from the sidebar navigation
  2. Click on the card
  3. Open the Multipliers, Credits, or Perks tab
  4. Tap a component to expand it
  5. Flip the tracking toggle inside the expanded row. The label shows whether the component is Active or Inactive (or Tracking / Not Tracking, for credits).
  6. To re-enable it later, find it in the same position during the current view, or at the bottom after a reload, and flip the toggle back on

Card Timeline and Open Dates

Every card has a Card timeline containing the periods when you held the account. A new card begins with one current period. Its opened date controls the card anniversary, when anniversary-based credits reset, and which dates are eligible for historical reporting.

Open My Cards, select the card, then choose Manage Card > Card timeline. From there you can:

  • Edit an opened or closed date
  • Mark the current period as still open
  • Add another period if you get the same card again later
  • Remove a period that was entered incorrectly

If an opened date has not been set, Cardzen estimates anniversary windows from the month when you added the card. The card detail and affected credit surfaces show a warning until you enter the real date.

Don't know your anniversary date? Check your issuer's website or app under account details, or search your email for the welcome message from when you were approved. The month and day determine anniversary timing. The year also determines how far back Cardzen treats the card as held.

Changing timeline dates does not erase saved credit usage. It changes which saved entries are eligible to appear for the periods when the timeline says you held the card. Cardzen rejects future dates, an end before its opened date, overlapping periods, and more than one period marked current.

Closing a Card

Use the closure flow only when the issuer account was actually closed:

  1. Open the active card in My Cards
  2. Select Manage Card > Close or remove card
  3. Select Account was closed
  4. Review the current period, enter the actual closed date, and save

The card moves out of the active wallet and into the collapsed Past cards section. Cardzen stops current recommendations, reminders, available-credit tracking, preferred-card behavior, and other present-tense actions for it. Its card details, multipliers, credits, perks, tracking preferences, timeline, and eligible historical report value remain available.

Closing the card in Cardzen does not contact the issuer or close the real account.

Getting the Same Card Again

Do not stretch the old period across years when you did not hold the card. Instead:

  1. Expand Past cards and open the card
  2. Select Manage Card > Card timeline
  3. Add a period using the date you received the card again
  4. Leave the earlier closed period unchanged

The new current period returns the card to the active wallet. Cardzen keeps the gap between periods outside recommendations and report eligibility rather than treating it as missed credit usage.

Removing a Card Added by Mistake

Use Added by mistake only when the card should not have been added to Cardzen:

  1. Open the active card in My Cards
  2. Select Manage Card > Close or remove card
  3. Select Added by mistake
  4. Review the Cardzen-only disclosure and confirm Remove permanently

This permanently removes the card from Cardzen without creating a Past card. It deletes the card's saved credit history, streaks, tracking preferences, timeline, and contribution to prior Cardzen reports. It does not close, cancel, or change the issuer account.

This action cannot be undone. If you later add the same card again, it starts clean with no prior Cardzen usage or streak history.

Permanent deletion requires the current My Cards or current Cardzen chat flow. Older installed app versions and connected assistants keep their existing soft-removal behavior, which can retain saved history. Update Cardzen and use the current My Cards confirmation when you intend to erase the card's Cardzen history.

Do not use Added by mistake for a real issuer closure. Choose Account was closed so the card appears under Past cards and its actual ownership dates remain available to reports.

Removing a Timeline Period

Open Manage Card > Card timeline, select the period, and choose Remove period. The confirmation shows the exact date range being removed. Removing a period changes which saved credit entries qualify for historical reports, but it does not delete the saved entries themselves.

Removing the card's only remaining period is treated as removing the card from Cardzen rather than creating an empty Past card.
